This fun afghan is one big Granny Square - make it as big as you want by adding more rows!
SIZE: 31-inches square - or however large you want to make it GAUGE: First 3 rounds = 3-1/2 inches
MATERIALS: * Crochet Hook "H" (5 mm) (or whichever size you need to obtain gauge)
* 4-ply Worsted Weight yarn - 12 ozs Multicolor and 8 ozs Solid
Model used 2 skeins Red Heart Super Saver #959 Gemstone and
1 skein Red Heart Super Saver #356 Amethyst
ABBREVIATIONS:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
INSTRUCTIONS:
With Solid color yarn, ch 4
Rnd 1: in first chain work: 2 dc, (ch 2, 3dc) 3 times, ch 2, join with sl st to top of ch-3 (4 sets of 3-dc)
Rnd 2: ch 4, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner space, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner space] 2 times, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 corner space, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch-4 (8 sets of 3-dc)
Rnd 3: ch 3, 2 dc in ch-1 space, [ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner space, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 space] 3 times, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner space, ch 1, CHANGE TO MULTICOLOR YARN as you join with sl st to top of ch-3 (12 sets of 3-dc)
Rnd 4: ch 4, 3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, [(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner space, ch 1, (3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1) repeat until corner] 3 times, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in last ch-2 corner space, ch 1, 2 dc in ch-1 space, join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-4
Rnd 5: ch 3, 2 dc in ch-1 space, ch 1, [(3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1) repeat until corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner space, ch 1] 4 times, (3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1) repeat until you return to beginning ch-3, join with sl st to top of ch-3
Rnd 6: ch 4, [(3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1) repeat until corner, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner space, ch 1] 4 times, (3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1) repeat until ch-1 space BEFORE the beginning ch-4, 2 dc in ch-1 space, join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch-4
Repeat Rnds 5 and 6, changing colors at the last step of joining with sl st, working 6 rounds of Multicolor yarn and 3 rounds of Solid yarn, repeatedly. Work until desired size. End with 3 rounds of Solid yarn.
